- The research applicant shall apply online through OFS web page of the Department along with research proposal.
- The Research Committee of UWIFORT shall approve/reject the proposal and inform concerned CFO.
- The applicant shall be informed on the approval or rejection of the research proposal by the Research Steering Committee within one month from the date of submission of proposal.
- Where the proposed research entails felling of tree, taking of Plant, Wildlife specimen and animal handling/collaring, the Research Committee of the UWIFORT shall further seek clearance from the Technical Committee of the Department.
- Research permit shall be downloaded online from OFS web page of the Department.
- Upon completion of the research field work, a copy of the raw research data shall be submitted to the UWIFORT of the Department.

A research permit fee shall be levied to the researcher as follows:
- Bhutanese individual and student: Free
- Foreign Students pursuing studies in any of the universities in Bhutan; Free
- Foreigners: Nu. 10,000/-
- A research proposal should be attached along with the application.
